The Office of Women and Minorities in Engineering will select one winner to receive a 16,000 scholarship to be used towards tuition, fees, books, and room and board during the 2017-2018 calendar year. This award is renewable for three additional years (four years total).

Selection Criteria for the “Navarrette Engineering Scholar”
The Navarrette Engineering Scholar should have a passion for making a positive difference. The student should exhibit a strong aptitude in math and science as evidenced by courses, grades, and participation in extra-curricular activities.
This scholarship is seeking the student with an “extra dimension” which can often be demonstrated through extracurricular activities. It considers both “well rounded” people who have contributed in many different ways to their schools or communities as well as those who have pushed a single endeavor to the highest level of recognized achievement. Extra-curricular successes can come in virtually limitless forms. Examples include but are not limited to athletics, clubs, work experience, community service, media and journalism, and the visual and performing arts.
Financial need will be one aspect considered in the recipient selection. The scholarship’s mission is to help excellent students with financial need to face less educational debt on graduation. This scholarship will enable a student to have more time to concentrate on the academic and extra-curricular opportunities which made them Navarrette Engineering Scholars in the first place.
Scholarships are awarded based quantitative and qualitative information on the following criteria:
- Essay response
- Academic achievement and merit
- Community service/ work experience
- Leadership experience
- Financial need
- Full-time enrollment as a first year student in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University 2017-2018.
- Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.40
